It’s hard not to get sucked into the world of “animal welfare” when you have a fearful pet (or maybe any pets). Seeing K-dog terrified so frequently has made me extremely sensitive to slightest signs of dogs’ (and animals’) distress. A well balanced dog gets stressed in a shelter or in any sort of unfriendly environments. Our dog is the kind that jumps with the slightest noise and trembles at the sight of store doors opening. He would not survive.
So, I sometimes find myself donating to dog rescue organizations here and there. I almost feel guilty that I got a dog from a (reputable) breeder instead of adopting, or that I’m not fostering any dogs that need to get out of the shelter. So I donate, here and there. I had never received a thank you card like this before, though. It made me quite happy!
Speaking of my relatively new keen interest in animal welfare, I just started reading this book called “Some We Love, Some We Hate, Some We Eat: Why It’s So Hard to Think Straight About Animals”. It discusses various dilemma we face as we try to be good to our pets and their breeds while feeding the meat products to them that clearly came from suffering slaughtered animals.
