The Challenge
|| Post one photo a day that is about ME! ||
I was very intrigued by this “photo a day for a year” challenge when I saw some of my Twitter contacts dive into it. I decided that I wanted to do it, also.
The problem is that I take pictures all the time. Probably almost daily. I spend a good amount of time shifting through them, editing them, and posting them in appropriate places. So taking a photo a day itself is not really a challenge for me. It needs to be something that I wouldn’t do, if it weren’t for this project.
I thought about this for a while, and I’ve decided to give it a try, with a focus on myself.
Here is why. My friends can almost always rely on me to have visual evidence of the fun time. Most live musicians that I see are photographed repeatedly. And my dog who is full of issues tends to be the major object of my general and photographic interests, every hour of every day. While I love capturing those special moments that my beloved ones experience, I often find myself turning into a journalist, a fly on the wall.
So, while I will allow the the photograph to be of anything, I will make sure that each photo is more about my thoughts and feelings than other people (or dogs). And for the sake of doing something different, I will try to be in the picture (even just a tip of my finger) once in a while. Also to prevent this project from becoming a source of anxiety, a lot of photos here are going to be taken casually with my iPhone as opposed to my big heavy SLR.
OK. So, let’s see what happens!
===Update 2012.04.08===
I attended a photography seminar in March called “Photos that tell stories”. There, I was reminded of my love for story-telling. Since that day, I’ve been trying to accompany each photo with more complete story. Of course, I don’t always have the time, but I would like to try my best to explain how each of those photos represents my day, my thoughts, and me.
===Update 2012.07.26===
I’m failing miserably both in the story-telling effort, as well as in being caught up.
