175/366 | On Golden Pond

So we are on Squam Lake for two nights, three days. Our camp site is on a little island called Bowman. There are 4 camp sites on it, and that’s all there are. We load everything onto a canoe from the parking lot, and row for about an hour, to get to the island. There is a toilet, and logs are provided. That is it. No electricity. Now water source.

The forecast was that we were going to get some thunderstorm in the late afternoon and evening. We canoed out with our stuff which we completely covered with a tarp, expecting it to pour on us at any moment. Instead, we got a dry canoeing, and after we got to the island, we were treated with this gorgeous sunset.

Squam Lake is very special to me, not only because I have been coming here for camping every year since 2006, but also this is the location for my mother’s favorite movie “On Golden Pond”. I watched it many times with her before coming to the US. When my mom visited many years ago, we drove up from Boston during the fall foliage season, and did once around the lake. I did not know anything about canoeing and camping back then. Now, while canoeing on the lake, every single time, I wish my mom could be with me.
