People here are so excited about St Patrick’s Day. We see people wearing green all weekend and the city is filled with drunken people.
Somebody here used it as an excuse, too, and bought a whole bunch of Guinness and stuffed them in the fridge. It’s all right. I do prefer less creamy beers, though.
Local independent theater played the Japanese film “Battle Royale” for a week. P loves the movie so we went.
I’ve seen it before, also, but I guess I didn’t remember many of the details. It’s an absurd story overall, but the sadness about the character Takeshi Kitano played is memorable.
I thought the theater would be empty, but it was well filled. People laughed when the dialog seemed ridiculous via the subtitles. I didn’t find most of them funny because in Japanese, those dialogs had a bit more substance than the subtitle insinuated.
St. Patrick’s Day is a big deal in this very Irish city. And every year, the days leading up to it have Boston’s own Dropkick Murphys playing in local music venues.
This year, I decided to take a peek at it. The tickets I bought were quite crappy. We were only able to see the band from where we stood if we crouched down. But as soon as our knees touched the floor, the security people would come and tell us we could not sit there. It was okay though. This was not one of those bands that I felt crazy about. I was just there for an experience.
Great thing about the daylight savings time is that I can work as late as I normally do, and still get some sort of light in the sky when I take the pup to walk when I get home.
It’s brutal. This was the first day back at work after my dream vacation in Colorado (seriously, I always always wanted to ski in Crested Butte). Of course, I was completely unproductive all morning and well into the afternoon.
It, however, is a very busy time at work. My inbox has been filled with Emails that required me to follow up. We have two guests from the Tokyo office that I need to meet many times and discuss numerous issues, before they leave a week from now. My to-do list is quite overwhelming.
So I got home late, exhausted. And we took the dog out for a walk. The warmth of the thick air and happy dog helped me relax. It isn’t so bad that vacation is over.
Back to New York, to pick up the K-dog. Then back to Boston tomorrow. The flyover of NYC before landing at LaGuardia was like a grand finale to the awesome vacation.
This trail, called Sylvanite, became our favorite of the day. It was warm and sunny. And everything was so beautiful.
We took the shuttle down to the town of Crested Butte for some groceries.
Woke up at 5am, flew out of LaGuardia at 8:30am, transitioned in Dallas, and arrived at Gunnison Airport at 3pm. This is the beginning of our 5 night 6 day vacation in Crested Butte Ski Resort in Colorado. It’s snowing hard in the area. The 1st day out on the mountain, tomorrow, is going to be e.p.i.c.
I’ve been at P’s parents’ home (where he grew up) many times before but I always browse through the things displayed on shelves just like the first time. Someone who looks just like P is smiling at the camera in the framed photos. The drawing he did when he was in highschool, some trophies, books he used to flip through… They are all important pieces of information for me to understand P better.
The kitchen is a mess. Packing for a trip the night before in a hurry is definitely a mistake. I know I’m going to forget something. Sigh.
Strange Weather today. Snowing under blue sky.
