This is totally wrong in terms of this project because I didn’t take this photo, but today was all about the new toy that arrived via UPS, and this picture portrays it very well.
We had no iPad in our household, but now there are two. We always had iPhones and there are 3 Mac laptops in the house. I don’t know if we’ll ever be looking up from the screens in days to come.
Local independent theater played the Japanese film “Battle Royale” for a week. P loves the movie so we went.
I’ve seen it before, also, but I guess I didn’t remember many of the details. It’s an absurd story overall, but the sadness about the character Takeshi Kitano played is memorable.
I thought the theater would be empty, but it was well filled. People laughed when the dialog seemed ridiculous via the subtitles. I didn’t find most of them funny because in Japanese, those dialogs had a bit more substance than the subtitle insinuated.
St. Patrick’s Day is a big deal in this very Irish city. And every year, the days leading up to it have Boston’s own Dropkick Murphys playing in local music venues.
This year, I decided to take a peek at it. The tickets I bought were quite crappy. We were only able to see the band from where we stood if we crouched down. But as soon as our knees touched the floor, the security people would come and tell us we could not sit there. It was okay though. This was not one of those bands that I felt crazy about. I was just there for an experience.
Great thing about the daylight savings time is that I can work as late as I normally do, and still get some sort of light in the sky when I take the pup to walk when I get home.
We slacked (a lot) the nail cutting of our dog. Then today, we tried to get it done all at once. We cut off a bit too much of one nail. Poor K yelped, squirmed in my arms, then ran away, leaving a little blood stain on my jeans.
It pains me whenever we do something and it leads to even a tiny bit of distrust. I was so sad and dwelled on it for a lot longer than necessary.
I attended a photography seminar hosted by National Geographic Traveler Magazine, which ran from 9am to 4pm. I took a seminar by them before, and it was wonderful. It was a beautiful Sunday today, but I definitely did not mind spending it in the dark auditorium, listening to great photographers.
They provided lunch but I stepped out to get my own lunch. While sitting in the cafe, looking out, I realized I was in crazy awe of one of the two speakers. His works shown on the screen were just beyond amazing. While I ate the sandwich called The Ike (very tasty), I thought about how everybody tries to be good at something, but some people just have it in them to begin with. I felt very inspired and very discouraged all at the same time.
And I snapped this photo with my iPhone.
One of the business guests from Tokyo Office decided to stay in the city for the weekend. I told her to give me a call in the evening, and she did. I drove by MIT for her, then we walked around in Harvard Square.
There was this hat store that I had never noticed before. They said it had been open since last August. I guess I hadn’t walked through the area with shopping in mind for that long. I bought a winter hat for 50% off. With this extremely warm winter, I’ll probably have to wait till next winter to wear it.
My post-vacation non-productiveness continues.
Stopping at a nearby coffee shop in the morning and getting a latte (which is normally consumed only on weekends) made me happy only temporarily. I’m so looking forward to the weekend. I need some solid quality time at home.
It’s brutal. This was the first day back at work after my dream vacation in Colorado (seriously, I always always wanted to ski in Crested Butte). Of course, I was completely unproductive all morning and well into the afternoon.
It, however, is a very busy time at work. My inbox has been filled with Emails that required me to follow up. We have two guests from the Tokyo office that I need to meet many times and discuss numerous issues, before they leave a week from now. My to-do list is quite overwhelming.
So I got home late, exhausted. And we took the dog out for a walk. The warmth of the thick air and happy dog helped me relax. It isn’t so bad that vacation is over.
Spent all day with this one at P’s parents’. Apparently, he spent 3 average hours every day in this backyard, which he loves. He wags his tail like crazy when they come home. And they said he finished every meal. It sounds like he also had a good 7-day vacation.
It was so nice that I did not have to feel too guilty or worried while in Colorado. It would have taken so much away from the fun if we had put him in a commercial kennel.
Back to New York, to pick up the K-dog. Then back to Boston tomorrow. The flyover of NYC before landing at LaGuardia was like a grand finale to the awesome vacation.
So far, we have had the fresh powder day, snow day, cold and windy day. And, for both yesterday and today, it has been total spring skiing days. I have never experienced such warm and pleasant 3-4pm skiing with that much snow. Since the snow was not quite so soft, we took frequent breaks, and took it easy. What great 4 days we’ve had at Crested Butte.
This was our last day skiing here. Tomorrow, we head back to East Coast. It’s sad that my dream ski trip to CB is coming to an end. However, there is that furry little dude, waiting for us at the end of the trip. It’s not bad!
